Cumulative Grief
2022
tree slices, found photographs

The cracked tree slice at the top of Cumulative Grief was taken from an oak tree grown from an acorn in the family cemetery where my maternal grandparents are buried. It was cut down by neighbors in the fall of 2020. The other slices were collected from two different trees: one which was cut down due to rot and another that blew down in a storm. Stacked together they represent the weight of accumulated losses. The photographs that fill the gap in the top slice represent the role memory plays in processing and healing from loss.
